This programme is tailor-made education programme for CNCBI Knowledge Angel Academy’s participation in the “Elephant Parade Hong Kong” – a worldwide project that aims to promote the importance of elephant conservation. In partnership with St. James Settlement, we designed and planned art workshop. The workshop was held at Asbury Methodist Primary School (亞斯理衛理小學) in June 2014, serving 20-25 students aged 8-12. There were two stages of the project, including education workshop and production of the elephant statue.
Together with artists and helpers, we designed various ice-breaking teaser to introduce primary students to the physicality of a typical Asian baby elephant with action game that mimicked the length of an elephant’s trunk. This was followed by artistic workshop using “marbling” as the medium. Students learned the Chinese Ink Marbling technique from the artists, and helped to decorate the elephant statue with marbling paper that they created. Through this lively and interesting workshop, students were introduced to traditional materials such as Chinese ink and paper as well as modern ink painting technique. This workshop enriched our understanding of children art making experience and alternative learning through visual art and action games.
